3rd Potential Song Choice, Jessie J-Who's Laughing Now

Artist: Jessie J

Album: Who You Are

Song Title: Who's laughing now
Release date: 25th February 2011
Genre: Pop/R&B

Lyrics:

Mummy they call me names
They wouldn't let me play
I'd run home, sit and cry almost everyday
'Hey Jessica, you look like an alien
With green skin you don't fit in this playpen'
Well they pull my hair
They took away my chair
I keep it in and pretend that I didn't care
'Hey Jessica, you're so funny
You've got teeth just like Bugs bunny'

Oh, so you think you know me now
Have you forgotten how
You would make me feel
When you drag my spirit down
But thank you for the pain
It made me raise my game
And I'm still rising, I'm still rising
Yeah

So make your jokes
Go for broke
Blow your smoke
You're not alone
But who's laughing now
But who's laughing now
So raise the bar
Hit me hard
Play your cards
Be a star
But who's laughing now
But who's laughing now

Cos I'm in L.A
You think I've made my fame
If it makes us friends
When you only really know my name
'Oh Jessie, we knew you could make it
I've got a track and I'd love you to take it'
So now because I'm signed
You think my pockets lined
4 years now and I'm still waiting in the line
'Oh Jessie, I saw you on youtube
I tagged old photos from when we was at school'

Oh, so you think you know me now
Have you forgotten how
You would make me feel
When you drag my spirit down
But thank you for the pain
It made me raise my game
And I'm still rising, I'm still rising
Yeah

Why choose this song?
I think 'who's laughing now' would be a good song to produce a music video to because I could easily illustrate the lyrics as they describe somebody who has been bullied at the begining of the track and therefore many people will be able to relate to this so it should be easy for the perfomer(s). The lyrics maintain a constant speed througout the track due to the beat which repeats itself.

Doing love dove, doing lovey dove, doing lovey dove

We stay kissing
Permanent
Lips locking knockin'
Boots knock knock boots
Break it down to the ground
Love my honey down

Love my honey down

Why choose this song?

I think this black eyed peas track would be a good song to produce a music video for. I like this track because there is a consatnt beat which I feel I could do something with and also the lyrics are kept at a constant speed throughout the song. If I was to choose this track I would probably classify it as amplification.

1st Potential Song Choice, The Script-Talk You Down

Artist: The Script

Album: The Script

Song Title: Talk you down
Release date: 11th August 2008
Genre: Indie/Pop

Lyrics:
I can feel the colour running
As it's fading from my face
Try to speak but nothin's coming
Nothing I could say to make you stay
Grab your suitcase call a taxi
It's 3am now where you gonna go?
Gonna stay with friends in London
And that's all I get to know.

Just a cigarette gone
No you couldn't be that far
I'm driving my car to where I hope you are
Maybe I can talk you down
Maybe I can talk you down
We're standing on a tiny ledge
Before this goes over the edge
Gonna use my heart and not my head
And try to open up your eyes
This is reletionship suicide
'Coz if you go, I go...
'Coz if you go, I go...

Taking shortcuts through the alleys
While you're racing through my mind
Cops can chase but they won't catch me
Not before I get to speak my mind
If there's still time, oh

Just a cigarette gone
No you couldn't be that far
I'm driving my car to where I hope you are
Maybe I can talk you down
Maybe I can talk you down
We're standing on a tiny ledge
Before this goes over the edge
Gonna use my heart and not my head
And try to open up your eyes
This is reletionship suicide
'Coz if you go, I go...
'Coz if you go, I go...
'Coz if you go, I go...
'Coz if you go, I go...

We're standing on a tiny ledge
Before this goes over the edge
Gonna use my heart and not my head

We're standing on a tiny ledge
Before this goes over the edge
Gonna use my heart and not my head

Just a cigarette gone
No you couldn't be that far
I'm driving my car to where I hope you are
Maybe I can talk you down
Maybe I can talk you down
We're standing on a tiny ledge
Before this goes over the edge
Gonna use my heart and not my head
And try to open up your eyes
This is reletionship suicide
'Coz if you go, I go...
'Coz if you go, I go...
'Coz if you go, I go...
'Coz if you go, I go...

Why Choose This Song?
I chose this song becuase it is a fairly recent track and is one of the less known songs from The Scripts album. I think this song would allow me to construct a good music video promotional package. To do this I would most likely aim to create it under the classification of illustration. I would do this by following a narrative story line.

Detailed Textual Analysis

Context"We Cry" is the debut single by Irish band The Script. The single was released on 29th April 2008 in Ireland and 2nd May 2008 in UK and is said to be about people Danny knew in Dublin while he grew up. The song has received a large amount of publicity, airplay and interest with BBC Radio 1 heavily backing the band

The music video opens with various screenshots of an urban area in New York City which appears to be heavily graffitied. There are also shots of the full band playing their musical instruments in a flat room. However, the video quickly centres around Danny as he begins to sing while walking about the city. There are a few shots of the whole band playing the song in the flat but the main part of the video in this area is when Mark sings his verse.

Lyrics

Together we cry...
Together we cry…

Jenny was poor girl living in a rich world
Named her baby hope when she was just fourteen
She was hoping for a better world for this little girl
But the apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree
Well she gets that call hope’s too far gone
Her baby’s on the way but nothing left inside
Together we cry!

What about the junk head could have gone the whole way
Lighting up the stage trying to get a deal
Now he’s lighting up the wrong way
“something for the pain!”
Man you wanna see this kid he was so fuckin’ unreal
When he gets that call he’s too far gone
To get it together to sing one song he won’t hear tonight
The words of a lullaby

Together we cry…
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Together we cry…
Whoah oh whoah oh whoah
Together we cry…
Oh we cry we cry we cry
Together we cry.
Oh oh…

Oh…Mary’s ambitious she wanna to be a politician
She been dreaming about it since she was a girl
She thought that she’d be the one to change the world
Always trying to pave the way for a woman in a… man’s world
Life happened, house, kids, 2 cars, husband hits tha jar,
Cheques that don’t go very far now
Now she in it can’t change it, she keeps her mind on her wages
The only rattling cages!

Ohhh…
Together we cry
Together we cry

There’s so much sad wanna flood the ocean
Were all in tears from the world exploding
Together we cry.
Oh we cry
Oh we cry…

There comes a time when every bird has to fly
At some point every rose has to die
It’s hard to let your children go home
Where they go?
Who knows!
Getting drunk
Getting stoned
All alone
Teach a man to fish
You’ll feed him never lie
You show your kids the truth hope they never lie
Instead of reading in a letter that they’ve gone to something better
“Bet your sorry now! I won’t be coming home tonight”
I’m sick of looking for those heroes in the sky
To teach us how to fly
Together we cry

Together we cry…
Together we cry…
Waoooo
Yeahh…
So much sad wanna flood the ocean
Were all in tears from the world exploding
Together we cry…
Oh…
Yeah…

Together we cry, cry…
Together we cry

My Chosen Music Video For Analysis

Artist: Bruno Mars
Track Name: Lazy Song
Release Date: 15th February 2011

The main reason why I like this music video is because it is funny. I think its funny because of the monkey costumes and the humorous lyrics. This video is choreographed really well and all the moves are at the same time and in sync with the beat. I believe this video shows Amplifictaion in this video as it is supposed to make people laugh and smile, however parts of this music video show Illistration.

Evaluation of My Performance During AS

Throughout the AS course l think my contribution to my group’s foundation portfolio was effective and helpful because made it easier for the other member in my group. I think I managed to work successfully in my group whilst also working individually.
Research and planning- I believe my research and planning was good quality and this made it easier for us throughout the course because we had a wider knowledge of horror films from this.
Construction- During the construction of our horror film my weakness was that I didn’t use the camera as much as my other group member because I did more acting however I think this is simple and I will be able to overcome this for a2. My strengths are with using the Macs and the software on these such as live type and garage band as I done a lot of editing.
Evaluation- I think my skills in this part of the course were the weakest as my English skills are not great. However I completed three of the seven questions on my own whilst my partner in the group done three as well and completed the final one together. We had all of these completed in time although it was tight. I would defiantly try to complete other tasks earlier to allow myself more time in the future.

How I Consume Music

I spend a lot of the time in the day listening to music and consume my music mainly by watching it on music channels such as 4music, MTV and Viva and listening to it through my iPod. I occasionally listen to radio and when I do it’s usually radio 1 or the hits radio.
I also watch music videos on YouTube and download most of my music from here as well. I have also used last fm in the past through my Xbox. I now rarely buy CD’s as it is easier to download the music in my opinion. I think I have been influenced by my parents as when I was growing up I listened to the music which they had on.
My personal music tastes are indie, pop and R&B. I like to listen to a mix of different styles of music as I like many. I also like some older artists such as simple minds which is because of the influence from my dad.
